Each arthritis type requires are different form of treatment. Knowing what type you have is the first step to recovery.

Listed below are the different types of arthritis we treat in the clinic

1. Osteoarthritis (OA) – A degenerative disease, often called ‘wear and tear’ arthritis. It progresses slowly over years of wear and tear. Often calcium deposits limit your joint’s range of motions. Osteoarthritis pain worsens with activities and increase in body mass.

2. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) – This type is autoimmune in nature; the body’s immune system attacks the muscles and synovial joints in the lower limb. Fingers and toes often deform because of joint erosion triggered by RA. Intake of daily immunosuppressant is the first step to regulate this systemic disease.

3. Post-traumatic arthritis – It can develop temporarily as a result of trauma to the lower limb. It develops fairly quickly after an injury. As it is usually a temporary issues, many people recover in few months. However, it can sometimes last longer than three months becoming a chronic condition. Anyone can be affected by post-traumatic arthritis because it’s caused by traumas and injuries. Unlike most forms of arthritis, post-traumatic arthritis is more common in younger people — including kids and teens — than older adults.

4. Gout – It develops as a result of the accumulation of uric acid crystals in joints. Symptoms of gout include severe pain, redness, and swelling in joints, often the big toe. Attacks can come suddenly, often at night after a great intake of high purine food. ie. bacon, sardine, veal, scallop, shellfish, cauliflower, spinach, mushrooms and alcohol beverage.

5. Pseudo-gout – Pseudogout is a disease that causes joint inflammation and arthritis. If someone develops pseudogout, they form and react to calcium pyrophosphate (CPP) crystals. These crystals can deposit in the joints and soft tissues. Pseudogout is also called calcium pyrophosphate disease (CPPD). Chondrocalcinosis is another word used to describe these calcium crystals. It is considered a rheumatologic condition.
This condition affects the body in a similar way to gout in hands. In each of these crystal forming conditions, the body’s reaction to the crystals can result in cartilage and soft tissue damage.

6. Psoriatic arthritis–  Psoriatic arthritis is a type of inflammatory arthritis.Symptoms include joint pain, stiffness, and swelling, which may flare and subside. Many people with the condition are affected by morning stiffness. Even mild skin psoriasis can have a significant degree of arthritis.

7. Arthropathy– a joint disease, of which arthritis is a type. It can be associated with hematologic (blood disorder) or an infection, such as Lyme disease or septic arthritis.
