Rehabilitation & Exercise Library

Rehabilitation plays an important role in the management of many musculoskeletal, neurological and orthopaedic conditions. Appropriate rehabilitation aims to restore mobility, improve strength, optimise movement patterns, and support a safe return to daily activities, work, exercise and sport.

This resource has been developed to provide general information about rehabilitation and exercise for different regions of the body. It includes examples of commonly prescribed exercises, movement strategies, and rehabilitation principles used within our clinic.

Rehabilitation may form part of treatment following injury, surgery, chronic pain conditions, arthritis, sporting injuries, tendon disorders, or regenerative procedures such as PRP therapy.

The exercises and information provided throughout this library are intended as general educational resources only. Individual rehabilitation programs should always be tailored to a person’s specific diagnosis, symptoms, goals and stage of recovery.

Rehabilitation Pathways

Rehabilitation is not a one-size-fits-all process. Different conditions, goals and stages of recovery often require different approaches to exercise and movement retraining.

At Foot, Ankle & Body Experts, rehabilitation programs are typically delivered through one or more of the following pathways.

Clinical Reformer Rehabilitation

Clinical Reformer Rehabilitation uses reformer-based exercises prescribed and supervised by a therapist. The reformer provides adjustable resistance and support, allowing exercises to be tailored to individual needs and abilities.

This form of rehabilitation may be beneficial for:

  • Lower back pain
  • Hip pain
  • Knee pain
  • Sporting injuries
  • Balance and stability training
  • Post-operative rehabilitation

Programs focus on improving movement control, flexibility, strength and overall function.

Gym-Based Rehabilitation
.

Gym-based rehabilitation combines traditional strength and conditioning principles with evidence-based rehabilitation practices. Exercises are prescribed according to the individual’s condition, goals and stage of recovery.

Programs may include:

  • Strength training
  • Resistance exercises
  • Functional movement training
  • Balance and coordination exercises
  • Return-to-sport conditioning

Gym-based rehabilitation is commonly used for tendon injuries, sporting injuries, chronic musculoskeletal conditions and post-operative recovery.

Home-Based Rehabilitation

Home-based rehabilitation allows patients to continue their recovery outside the clinic through structured exercise programs that can be performed independently.

Programs are designed to be practical, achievable and specific to the individual’s condition and goals. Exercises may focus on mobility, flexibility, strength, balance or symptom management.

Home-based rehabilitation often forms an important part of recovery and may be used alongside Clinical Reformer Rehabilitation or Gym-Based Rehabilitation.
