Hand & Wrist Pain

Hand and wrist pain conditions we can treat

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is one of the most common conditions affecting the wrist and hand. It occurs when the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the palm of the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist. Symptoms include numbness, tingling, and pain in the palm and fingers, often worsening at night.

De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis involves the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist. It is caused by repetitive motion leading to inflammation of the tendon sheath. Symptoms include pain and swelling near the base of the thumb, extending into the wrist or forearm.

Wrist Sprains are common injuries resulting from a fall or sudden twist, leading to stretching or tearing of the ligaments in the wrist. Symptoms include pain, swelling, and difficulty moving the wrist.

Ganglion Cysts are fluid-filled lumps that commonly develop along the tendons or joints of the wrists or hands. While often painless, they can cause discomfort or interfere with joint movement if they grow large.

Osteoarthritis of the Wrist occurs when the cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones deteriorates over time. This condition can cause pain, stiffness, and swelling in the wrist.

Trigger Finger affects the tendons in the fingers or thumb, leading to painful snapping or locking when bending or straightening the finger.

Hand and wrist pain assessment

An upper body specialist will begin by taking a comprehensive medical history to understand the onset, nature, and duration of the hand and wrist pain. A physical examination will follow, focusing on palpating for tender areas, testing the range of motion of the wrist and fingers, and assessing grip strength and tendon function.

Once the underlying issue is identified, we will explore various treatment options tailored to the patient’s needs. The Foot, Ankle & Body Experts Health Clinic is equipped to address these conditions with a range of therapeutic interventions aimed at restoring function and alleviating pain in the hands and wrists.
